To honor and celebrate the lives of transgender
persons, both past and present, and to bring about social change for the
benefit of the transgender/transsexual community through activities and events
that bring education, understanding, and support to all.
To design,
sponsor, and present The International Transgender Day Of Remembrance every
Nov. the 20th. The event honors and
celebrates the lives of those transgender persons that have past away as well
as those transgender persons still here.
To provide a
means of collective action for parents, children, relatives, and friends to
promote the medical, physical, emotional, educational, vocational, cultural,
and social advancement of the transgender community.
To serve as a
vehicle through which the transgender community and interested other persons
can come together in local, state, and national meetings to plan and carry out
programs, activities, events, and any other action which will improve the
overall condition and quality of life.
To utilize the arts as a means to educate and create awareness.
To provide
resources for guides, speakers, and educational material to the transgender
community and the community at large.
To provide
opportunities to learn and experience leadership and advocacy to any interested
individual.
To provide comprehensive trainings including but not limited to: sensitivity, cultural competency, transgender awareness, and panel presentations on issues of trans-experiences.
Trans-e-motion is all-inclusive and publicly open to everyone and anyone, regardless of individual socioeconomic conditions, age, color, creed, disability, gender identity, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, family status, or military status. The interests and concerns of all those that are transgender and gender-diverse, are valuable and should be heard and fairly represented. This includes all classes, subgroups, and minorities. Mutual benefit can be achieved by working with other organizations in the pursuit of civil and human rights.
Our main project is The International Transgender Day Of
Remembrance every November the 20th.
An event held each year
celebrating the lives given to further the rights, dignity, and acceptance of
those persons transgender/transsexual.
There is food, entertainment, music, speeches, testimonials, a scroll of
the names of the deceased, and an art exhibit.
The event usually begins about 6:00 p.m. and runs to around 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. A luminaria and reading of
the names usually follow the entertainment.
It has been our custom to not hold the event at the same place each
year, or not repeat the location for at least five years or more. We usually try to obtain a place large enough
for the art exhibit, with a stage area, a place for catering, and, preferably,
an atrium/patio area or garden.
